Craig Carton highlights Kenny Washington, the man who integrated the NFL in 1946 after a ban on black players lasted from 1934 to 1945. Washington was the first All-American football player in UCLA history in 1939 (also a member of the school’s baseball team). He was the first black player signed by the Los Angeles Rams. Washington’s historical moment took place one year before Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball.
