MLB on FOX highlights: Top plays from Yankees-Giants, Phillies-Rangers
SHARE

The MLB on FOX made its season debut on Saturday with a pair of matchups featuring some teams hoping to contend.

In the Bronx, the Yankees weren’t able to come back and defeat the Giants following their Opening Day win. New York got out to a 2-0 lead but gave up three runs in the fourth plus two runs in both the sixth and ninth innings. The Yankees threatened to tie or win the game in the ninth as they loaded the bases up, but weren’t able to take full advantage as they lost 7-5.

In Arlington, the Rangers continued their mashing of the defending National League champion Phillies. Following an 11-7 Opening Day win, Texas poured 16 runs on Philadelphia on Saturday, winning 16-3 behind two three-run home runs from Mitch Garver. The Rangers will look to get the sweep on Sunday.

Here are the top plays from Giants-Yankees and Phillies-Rangers!

FINAL: San Francisco Giants 7, New York Yankees 5

Jussssst a bit outside

It wasn’t a wild pitch thrown by Giants starting pitcher Alex Cobb that hurt San Francisco in the first inning. It was a wild throw that gave the Yankees the game’s first run. Cobb tried to turn two to end the inning, but his throw to second base ended up in center field, allowing Judge to score.

Very good, Volpe!

Highly-touted Yankees prospect Anthony Volpe recorded the first of many hits in his big league career on a grounder to left field in the second inning.

The Judge rules no hit

Judge decided he wanted to make an impressive play on the field on Saturday, robbing Thairo Estrada of a base hit in the third.

Giancarlo goes gone

Giancarlo Stanton hit his first homer of the season in the third inning, hitting a liner over the porch in right field to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

Jammin’ Joc

Joc Pederson gave the Giants their first run of the season after 12 scoreless innings when he hit a solo shot to right field to the Yankees’ lead to 2-1.

Brandon bomb

Brandon Crawford crushed one deep into the right field bleachers at Yankees Stadium to give the Giants a 3-2 lead in the fourth.

Rizzo rakes home a run

Anthony Rizzo tied the game up in the fifth inning with an RBI double to right to make it 3-3.

Cash in the check, swing

LaMonte Wade Jr.‘s check swing got the job done for the Giants even if the ball only traveled a few feet from home plate. Wade made it to first safely and the runner scored with the bases loaded to give San Francisco a 4-3 lead in the sixth.

Donaldson goes deep!

Josh Donaldson belted a solo shot to left field to cut the Giants’ lead to 5-4 and make things interesting in the eighth.

Getting the green light to score

Mike Yastrzemski got the go-ahead to swing and he delivered, hitting an RBI double to give the Giants an insurance run in the ninth.

Craw-time

Crawford continued his stellar day in the ninth as he hit an RBI single to give the Giants a 7-4 lead.

Controversial ending

The Yankees got a run back and were threatening for more in the ninth with the bases loaded. Stanton appeared to ground into a double play, but there were some questions on if the tag was applied on second base for the force out.

Following a review, it was determined that the tag was applied to end the game.

FINAL: Texas Rangers 16, Philadelphia Phillies 3

Base running blunder turns to easy out

J.T. Realmuto took too wide of a turn when he rounded second base, and as the Rangers made a heads-up defensive play, the Phillies’ threat to score ended.

Semien sends it out

Marcus Semien hit a leadoff home run to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Robbie runs

Robbie Grossman made it a 2-0 game in the bottom of the first inning with his RBI single as the Rangers picked up where they left off on Opening Day

Bohm brings the big glove

Alec Bohm made an impressive diving grab at third to prevent the Rangers from getting things going in the second inning.

Mad Marsh

Brandon Marsh wasn’t happy after he was rung up for strike three to end the Phillies’ promising fourth-inning rally.

Trea triple to get things going

Trea Turner got on board in the fifth inning with a triple to the opposite field and later scored to cut the Rangers’ lead to 4-3.

Money Mitch

Mitch Garver hit a liner down the left field line that made it just over the wall to give Texas a 7-3 lead in the fifth.

Money Mitch strikes again!

Garver hit his second three-run homer of the day in the seventh inning to give the Rangers a 10-3 edge as they’ve poured on the runs on the Phillies through the first two games of the series.

Keep ’em coming!

Adolis Garcia hit a single to left field to score another run for the Rangers to make it 13-3 in the seventh as they just can’t stop scoring.

Position player pitching!

With the Phillies trailing by a lot, they decided not to use any more of their bullpen arms and opted to have Josh Harrison pitch.

Three runs scored with Harrison on the mound, keeping Philadelphia within a 13-run striking distance entering the ninth.
