Lions vs. Packers highlights: Lions win 34-20 on Thursday Night Football

Week 4 of the NFL season kicked off Thursday with the Detroit Lions (3-1) taking down the Green Bay Packers (2-2) at Lambeau Field, reigniting a classic NFC North rivalry.

Detroit was coming off a 20-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons, while Green Bay pulled off a 17-point comeback to beat the New Orleans Saints 18-17 in Week 3. The Lions swept the season series with the Packers last season including a Week 18 victory on the road, which eliminated the Packers from playoff contention.

On the injury front, Green Bay placed left tackle David Bakhtiari on injured reserve (knee) Thursday with a return date unclear. Meanwhile, Packers running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson were active after dealing with hamstring injuries. Lions running back David Montgomery (thigh) was active, but safety Kerby Joseph (hip) was inactive.

Here are the top moments!

FINAL: Detroit Lions 34, Green Bay Packers 20

Oops!

On third down of the opening possession, Lions quarterback Jared Goff was intercepted by safety Rudy Ford, who ran the pick back to the Lions’ 16-yard line.

Lions D holds

Detroit’s defense held Green Bay to a field goal off the interception, thanks to an eye-popping second-down sack from defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.

Lions strike

One play after Goff hooked up with tight end Sam LaPorta for a 35-yard gain, the quarterback hit an open Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 24-yard touchdown.

Doing it on the ground

Detroit forced a three-and-out and then went back to work. On the sixth play of the ensuing drive, Goff scrambled for an 11-yard pickup. Two plays later, Montgomery ran in a 3-yard touchdown for the Lions.

Running past them

Detroit forced another Green Bay three-and-out, and its offense kept the ball rolling shortly thereafter. On the first play of the Lions’ next drive, Josh Reynolds hauled in a one-handed grab for a gain of 26 yards, which was followed by a 40-yard run from Kalif Raymond, as shown below. With that said, they were held to a 32-yard field goal from Riley Patterson.

Yikes!

On the first play of the ensuing possession, Packers quarterback Jordan Love’s pass was tipped by linebacker Alex Anzalone and intercepted by cornerback Jerry Jacobs, who ran the pick back to the Packers’ 7-yard line. Two plays later, Montgomery ran in another score for the Lions. They led 24-3.

HALFTIME: Lions 27, Packers 3

The Lions dominated the Packers in the first half thanks to a trio of touchdowns and their defense holding the latter to just three first downs, two of them coming via a defensive penalty. Detroit out-gained Green Bay 284-20.

Brian Branch injured

The Lions rookie defensive back was carted off with an ankle injury on the opening possession of the second half, but he later returned.

Packers show life

Green Bay put together a 12-play touchdown drive to begin the second half, which saw them convert a fourth-and-9. After getting his first reception of the season on a 24-yard pass play earlier in the drive, wide receiver Christian Watson hauled in a 1-yard touchdown pass from Love. Green Bay then converted a two-point attempt and trailed 27-11.

We got a game!

Detroit and then Green Bay went three-and-out after the latter reached the end zone. Then after the Lions punted, the Packers got the ball rolling again. Green Bay got a snap off just before the third quarter concluded and Love hit wide receiver Romeo Doubs for a 44-yard pickup. Two plays later, Love took off for a 9-yard touchdown run, but the Packers couldn’t convert the two-point attempt.

Consequential penalty leads to TD

Green Bay held Detroit to a field goal, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Quay Walker kept the drive alive. Four plays later, the Lions went for it on fourth-and-goal from the Packers’ 1-yard line, and Montgomery punched in his third score. The Lions led 34-17 with 6:00 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Another INT

Jacobs picked off Love in the red zone on the Packers’ next possession, his second interception of the game. The final minutes ran out, giving the Lions a 34-20 victory over the Packers.

A familiar face

Packers fan and “Undisputed” fixture Lil Wayne ran out of the tunnel with the team.
