The 6-1 Philadelphia Eagles are once again adding defensive back help before the NFL trade deadline as they hope to make another run to the Super Bowl. The Eagles have acquired safety Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans, according to FOX AFC South reporter Ben Arthur.

NFL Media was the first to report the trade. The Eagles are reportedly sending safety Terrell Edmunds and 2024 fifth- and sixth-round draft picks to Tennessee in return.

Byard is a former two-time first team All-Pro who immediately fills the biggest need on the Eagles’ loaded roster. Philadelphia lost Marcus Epps to Las Vegas and C.J. Gardner-Johnson to Detroit in free agency last offseason, though the Eagles were able to keep Pro Bowler Darius Slay.

However, Edmunds had struggled in his first season in Philadelphia, Slay remains effective but is 32 years old, and fellow safety Reed Blankenship is currently sidelined with a rib injury he sustained in the Eagles’ Oct. 15 loss to the New York Jets. At the game against Miami last night, Philly fans reportedly asked GM Howie Roseman to get help for the secondary. He wasted little time.

In six games this season, Byard has 47 total tackles and one fumble recovery. Slay, wide receiver (and Byard’s fellow former Titan) A.J. Brown and offensive lineman Lane Johnson reacted excitedly to reports of the trade on social media Monday.

Titans veterans Sean Murphy-Bunting and Phillip Dorsett had less enthusiastic reactions to the news.

The Eagles head to play division-rival Washington next week. They are currently tied with the Chiefs, who beat Philadelphia in the Super Bowl last February, for the NFL’s best record at 6-1.
