Seahawks to debut 1990s throwback jerseys in Week 8 game vs. Browns

The Seattle Seahawks are going back to the future for their matchup Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.

That game, which kicks off at 4:05 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports App, will mark the on-field (re-)debut of the royal blue and silver throwback jerseys that copy the look that the Seahawks wore throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

These jerseys have some slight modifications, though, including a patch commemorating Seattle’s Kingdome, which was the Seahawks’ initial home stadium until its closure in 1999.

The Seahawks initially revealed the jerseys in July with a digital rollout that included a 1990s-style website made in partnership with Seattle-based Microsoft featuring photos of several recognizable current players, including Bobby Wagner, DK Metcalf, Geno Smith and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The team said at the time that it chose the 1990s as its preferred throwback era because of the cultural impact Seattle made in that decade, from companies like Microsoft and Starbucks to hit bands such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, as well as the improvements the team made in the latter part of the decade under new owner Paul Allen and head coach Mike Holmgren.

The Seahawks are one of several NFL teams that have brought back throwback jerseys since the league got rid of a rule in 2022 that had required players to only wear one helmet per season. Several hotly-anticipated throwbacks have made made their grand reintroductions around the league in recent weeks, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ original orange “Creamsicle” look in Week 6 and the Philadelphia Eagles’ iconic “Kelly Green” jerseys on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.
