The Pittsburgh Steelers said goodbye to quarterback Mitch Trubisky on Monday.
And with that, the Justin-Fields-to-Pittsburgh rumors ramped up.
According to one NFL Insider, “We know that Pittsburgh is going to go out and get some type of quarterback … whether that’s Ryan Tannehill, whether that’s Russell Wilson, whether that’s Justin Fields. Mike Tomlin is a big fan of Justin Fields.”
Does that mean the Steelers are going to make a pitch to acquire the Chicago Bears QB?

The odds for Fields’ next team shifted this week, as Pittsburgh’s odds of acquiring the QB surged to -125 from +1600.
With that, the Bears — Fields’ current team — are no longer the favorite to be Fields’ team next season, falling to +200 from +100.
Fields is entering the final year of the four-year, $18.9 million contract he signed as a rookie.
Chicago owns the top pick in April’s NFL Draft. USC’s Caleb Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, is the -1200 betting favorite to be the top pick.
Here are the latest odds on the team Fields takes his first snap with this season, according to DraftKings:

Everything starts with the Bears. Do they keep the top pick and trade Fields? Or do they trade the top pick and hope to get a huge return of players and picks?
FOX Sports NFL Insider David Helman said Chicago has “a hell of a choice in front of them.”
“It’s the biggest choice in the NFL this offseason, when you talk about owning the No. 1 draft pick in a year with several quality quarterback prospects and also having a very up-and-down but very talented quarterback in Justin Fields,” Helman said.
“Do you build around him? Do you trade out of the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and try to get another haul?”
The Steelers return QB Kenny Pickett, the No. 20 pick in 2022.
But FOX Sports NFC West reporter Eric D. Williams points out Fields would be a good fit with Pittsburgh.
“Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he still likes Kenny Pickett but will create a competitive environment in the quarterback room,” Williams said. “Tomlin likes quarterbacks who can move, and Fields is a big, strong athlete who can run and would fit what the Steelers want to do on offense.”
FOX Sports NFC North reporter Carmen Vitali took a macro look at the Bears’ QB situation and concluded this: The Bears don’t have a great track record of turning QBs into stars.
However, she cautioned Chicago against investing a boatload of money into an unproven signal-caller.
“The Bears have to decide whether to pick up Fields’ fifth-year option in the coming months. That would guarantee Fields around $25 million in 2025. The thought is that a long-term contract wouldn’t be far behind. Nearly half of the league’s quarterbacks are making $35 million or more, with contracts only getting richer. A franchise player, like Fields would be if he made it to a second contract with the team, makes somewhere in the range of $40-55 million per year. That’s a lot of money to commit in the very near future to a player who has yet to show the team he’s that caliber of quarterback.
“The other option is to take advantage of a unique draft situation and select a quarterback with the first overall pick, effectively resetting the contract clock on the most expensive position. The Bears acquired No. 1 overall after last year’s trade down with the Carolina Panthers out of Chicago’s earned first overall pick. The Bears are again in that top spot, and still have their own No. 9 overall pick, all while fielding a sneaky-good roster led by a defense that played like one of the NFL’s best at the end of the 2023 season.”
