Washington Commanders linebacker Jamin Davis avoided jail time for a misdemeanor reckless driving charge but had his license suspended for six months, according to court documents filed Friday.

Davis had been scheduled to face a jury trial in the Loudoun County Circuit Court on Monday, but his attorney, Mark Dycio, was able to resolve the matter on Friday without jail time. Davis was fined $2,500 plus $176 in court costs. He was sentenced to 180 days of jail time but with all the time suspended.

Davis had been arrested on March 28, 2022 for reckless driving after he was allegedly clocked in his McLaren going 114 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone in Loudoun County, Virginia, where the Commanders train. Two months later, he was convicted of reckless driving and sentenced to 30 days in jail, but he appealed the ruling. Because it was considered a Class 1 misdemeanor charge in Virginia, Davis faced up to 12 months of jail time plus a $2,500 fine.

Based on an agreement reached in July, Davis would have served a maximum of eight days in jail. But Judge Stephen E. Sincavage said in court that he considered the deal too lenient and rejected it. Another agreement that would have resulted in a minimum of four days jail time also was rejected because Judge James E. Plowman said it was not substantially different from the first plea deal.

Davis had also been charged with reckless driving in December 2021, allegedly clocked at 89 mph in a 65 mph zone — four days before teammate DeShazor Everett was involved in a crash that killed his girlfriend. Davis had been out with them that night and was driving his car ahead of them.

Washington selected Davis with the 19th pick in the 2021 draft; he has started 36 games for the Commanders in the past three years. Washington must decide this spring whether it wants to pick up Davis’ fifth-year option. Davis is coming off his most productive season, with 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 4 passes defensed and 8 tackles for loss.
