Washington running back Tybo Rogers was arrested Friday and charged with two instances of rape that allegedly took place during the 2023 football season, according to King 5 News in Seattle.
Rogers was charged with second- and third-degree rape and posted bail of $150,000, according to King 5, citing court documents.
“The University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics Department is aware of the arrest of a football student-athlete by the Seattle Police Department,” UW Athletics said in a statement. “The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities until further notice. The UW will continue to gather facts and cooperate with law enforcement, as requested.”
Rogers was suspended from team activities in November, after the alleged rapes occurred, and he did not travel with the team for the Pac-12 championship game on Dec. 1, King 5 reported. He later appeared in the College Football Playoff semifinal and championship games.
“As soon as we found out about any allegations, [we] suspended him indefinitely from the program,” said UW coach Jedd Fisch, who was hired in January to replace Kalen DeBoer after DeBoer left to coach at Alabama following the season.
As of Tuesday evening, the King County Court online portal did not return any results related to Rogers’ arrest. The Seattle Police Department posted on its police blotter blog on Monday that an 18-year-old man was arrested in two rape cases, which lines up with what King 5 reported about Rogers.
“The investigation into the suspect started with the report of a rape in October 2023 in the Capitol Hill neighborhood,” according to Seattle police. “The victim was a 19-year-old woman. An additional rape case from November 2023 in the University District involved the same suspect. The victim was a 22-year-old woman.”
Police added: “Detectives established probable cause for both sexual assaults.”
A police spokesperson was unavailable for comment Tuesday evening.
As a freshman in 2023, Rogers rushed 44 times for 184 yards and had six receptions for 72 yards. He was a three-star recruit out of California’s Bakersfield High School in the Class of 2023.
