Here is what to know about the CFP title oddsboard:
The Defending Champs: No. 1 OSU (9-0) remained in the top spot on the oddsboard after a 34-10 win over Purdue in Week 11. It has now outscored its first eight opponents 327-65. Ohio State has one win that was within seven points — a 14-7 win over then-No. 1 Texas in Week 1. It has beat every other opponent on its schedule by at least 18 points, and has allowed 10 or more points just three times. So who can stop the Buckeyes from going undefeated in the regular season? They have games left against UCLA, Rutgers and Michigan.
Hoosiers’ Scare: Indiana, just like the Buckeyes, is undefeated (10-0), but got a scare in Week 11, needing a late field goal to win at Penn State 27-24. Through 10 games, the Hoosiers are outscoring opponents 445-121, and on the year, they are averaging 44.5 points per game, tops in all college football. In other words, the Hoosiers’ defense might not be as stout as Ohio State’s, but Ohio State’s offense hasn’t quite reached the level of Indiana’s. IU has two regular-season games left: against Wisconsin and at Purdue. The undefeated regular season is entirely in play.
Winners and Losers: There was one top-10 loss in Week 11, with No. 7 BYU falling at No. 8 Texas Tech (29-7). It was the Cougars’ first loss of the year, and their CFP odds moved from +10000 to +22500.
CFP Changes: There will be some changes heading into the next College Football Playoff when it comes to seeding, potentially making the path smoother for some of those premier programs. In late May, the CFP committee approved a proposal in which the four highest-ranked teams would earn the top four seeds and a first-round bye, removing the previous conference champion requirement. The top five ranked conference champions will still earn playoff spots. Last season, the top four seeds — Oregon, Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State — all received a bye and then lost in their quarterfinal matchups. Had the new format been in place, No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Penn State would have been the top four seeds and had byes.
