Here is what to know about the Super Bowl oddsboard:

The Defending Champ: Philadelphia dropped slightly on the oddsboard after suffering its first loss of the season in Week 5, falling to the Broncos at home. Then, it took another dip and has been hovering around +1200/+1300, after its second defeat in a row, this time on the road at the New York Giants on Thursday night. Outside the Chiefs going back-to-back in 2022 and 2023, winning two in a row is a feat seldom accomplished in the Super Bowl era. New England won the Super Bowl in 2003 and 2004. Before that, the Broncos won in 1997 and 1998, and the Cowboys won in 1993 and 1994. The Niners went back-to-back in 1988 and 1989; the Steelers won in 1974 and 1975, and then again in 1978 and 1979. The Dolphins won in 1972 and 1973, and the Packers won in 1966 and 1967.

The Favorite(s): Buffalo has been at the top of the board since the season began, but after losing two in a row, it now has company in the form of its arch rival, the Kansas City Chiefs. K.C. came in to its Week 6 matchup against 4-1 Detroit at 2-3, but the Chiefs that showed up in Week 6 was the version that strikes fear in opponents. The offense was humming behind Patrick Mahomes’ four total touchdowns, and the defense held a Lions team that came into the game leading the league in points per game to just 17. Going back to the Bills, they have been tip-toeing around the Super Bowl in recent years but haven’t made it to the Big Game since 1993. They have lost in the divisional round three of the last five years and have lost in the AFC title game twice in the last five years, both times at Kansas City, including last season. The Bills are coming off their second loss of the season, falling at home to the Patriots in Week 5 and then on the road to Atlanta in Week 6.

Close Contenders: The third teams on the board are the Lions and Packers. Detroit had won four in a row before the Week 6 loss in Kansas City, while Green Bay is 3-1-1 on the season after a Week 6 win over Cincinnati, albeit not the most impressive one.
