Here is what to know about the World Series oddsboard:
The Defending Champion: L.A. has played eight postseason games and sits at 7-1, after taking a 2-0 lead over the Brewers in the NLCS, winning both games in Milwaukee to open the series. Dodgers ace Blake Snell put together a masterful performance in Game 1, striking out 10 across eight innings of one-hit baseball. L.A. won 2-1. Then, in Game 2, the Dodgers turned to Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and he didn’t disappoint, surrendering a lead-off home run and then allowing just two more hits in a complete-game performance. He struck out seven and walked one in the 5-1 Dodgers victory. Game 3 is set for Thursday in Los Angeles.
The Challengers: Next on the board are the Mariners, who took a two-game lead over the Blue Jays in the ALCS. So far, Seattle has outscored the Blue Jays 13-4 across two games, and the Mariners’ pitching, like the Dodgers’, has been in control. After Bryce Miller allowed a lead-off home run to George Springer in Game 1, Seattle allowed just one hit the rest of that game. And in Game 2, Toronto scored three runs in the first two innings off Logan Gilbert — only two earned — and held the Jays scoreless for the final seven innings. This is Seattle’s first trip to the ALCS since it went in back-to-back years in 2000 and 2001. The franchise has never made it to the World Series. Game 3 is Wednesday in Seattle.
