Both the Lions and Vikings are hoping that Santa Claus left them a victory under their Christmas tree this year, but Detroit certainly needs it the most.
The Lions are fighting for their playoff lives on Thursday, needing to win out in order to get back to the postseason for a third straight year. The Vikings, meanwhile, were knocked out of playoff contention a couple of weeks ago, but have won three straight ahead of the holiday matchup. However, quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss Thursday’s game with an injury, perhaps giving the Lions a bit of an early Christmas gift.
