Man Utd looking for Amorim’s replacementPochettino and Enrique on Man Utd’s shortlistCould Luis Enrique leave PSG for Man Utd?What next for Man Utd?

Manchester United have come up with a four-man shortlist of potential candidates to replace Ruben Amorim as the club’s next permanent head coach. Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique and USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino are on the Red Devils’ radar, while Michael Carrick is expected to be handed the job on an interim basis until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Man Utd looking for Amorim’s replacement

Manchester United parted company with Amorim after just 14 months in charge following his explosive outburst against the club in the wake of the team’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road. Former midfielder Darren Fletcher has taken over the reins on a short-term basis but has failed to manage a win in two games in charge. Fletcher has overseen a 2-2 Premier League draw with Burnley and a 2-1 defeat to Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup. Fletcher is now set to return to his previous job in charge of the Under-18s, with former team-mate Carrick expected to be appointed as interim coach until the end of the campaign. This will be Carrick’s second spell in temporary charge of the club as he was also handed the reins for three games back in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed. Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate and ex-Chelsea and England assistant Steve Holland are expected to be part of Carrick’s coaching staff at Old Trafford.

Pochettino and Enrique on Man Utd’s shortlist

Manchester United are now looking for another permanent head coach who can help return the club to former glories. According to the Mirror, Enrique is one of the club’s “main targets” and the Red Devils are monitoring his situation in the French capital. United are hoping to appoint a new manager with a wealth of experience and someone used to dealing with the sort of pressure that comes with being manager of the Red Devils. Enrique is seen as a good choice, particularly as he will be into the final 12 months of his contract in the summer and has yet to extend his deal. Pochettino is also on Manchester United’s four-man shortlist, along with England boss Thomas Tuchel and Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Could Luis Enrique leave PSG for Man Utd?

Manchester United’s interest in Enrique is no surprise given the enormous success he has achieved in his managerial career. The Spaniard won the treble in his first season at Barcelona and has gone on to achieve more success with PSG. Indeed he became only the second manager ever to win the treble with two different clubs last season as PSG swept all before them, picking up the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. Yet it remains to be seen if he could be tempted away from Parc des Princes at the end of the season. Recent speculation claiming Luis Enrique is planning his departure has been branded as “100% fake news” by sporting director Luis Campos, while the club’s Qatari owners are reportedly keen to tie him down to a lifetime contract after being thrilled by his work with PSG so far.

What next for Man Utd?

Carrick is set to take charge of Manchester United training for the first time on Wednesday when the players return to action after being given some time off following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Brighton. The former midfield star faces a daunting start to his career back in the Manchester United dugout as Manchester City are up next in the Premier League at Old Trafford and the Red Devils then head to league leaders Arsenal. Yet Carrick will be boosted by the return from AFCON of Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, with both players set to be available for selection again after their dreams of glory at the competition were both ended at the quarter-final stage.
