Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder, according to a statement released by the team on Monday.
Morant sustained the injury during practice on Saturday and underwent an MRI on Monday.
Morant returned from serving a 25-game league-imposed suspension on Dec. 19 for multiple instances of flashing guns. In the nine games he’s played since his return, he’s averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game, and the Grizzlies rebounded from a slow start without to go 7-2.
Morant, 24, is expected to make a full recovery for the 2024-25 season, per the Grizzlies. Morant signed a five-year, $192 million contract extension in 2022.
