Colorado tailback Alton McCaskill plans to enter the college football transfer portal, he told ESPN on Wednesday night.
McCaskill will have two years of eligibility remaining and is fully healthy. McCaskill played just four games last year at Colorado before redshirting. He’ll emerge as an intriguing portal player because of a scintillating 2021 freshman season at the University of Houston.
McCaskill earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 while at Houston, running for 961 yards and hauling in 113 receiving yards. His 16 touchdowns that year led all true freshmen and set Houston’s true freshman record for rushing touchdowns.
He had 14 carries for 59 yards at Colorado last year before asking coach Deion Sanders to be redshirted. Sanders granted that wish. McCaskill missed the 2022 season after tearing an ACL the previous spring.
McCaskill is a former four-star recruit in the class of 2021, and his listed offer sheet included USC, Oklahoma State and many of the country’s top programs.
Thirteen Colorado players have already entered the portal this week, with McCaskill looming as the 14th. He joins offensive lineman Savion Washington, safety Myles Slusher and highly recruited cornerback Cormani McClain, who has announced his intention to enter.
