Ryder Cup Format
The Ryder Cup is a team golf competition held every two years between the United States and Europe, and it has a unique format that mixes different styles of play. The event lasts three days, with the first two days featuring team matches and the final day focused on singles play. On Friday and Saturday, players compete in pairs in two different formats: foursomes, where two teammates take alternate shots with the same ball, and four-ball, where each golfer plays their own ball and the better score counts for the team. On Sunday, all 12 players from each side face off in head-to-head singles matches. Each match is worth one point, with half a point awarded if the match ends in a tie. With 28 points available overall, the first team to reach 14½ points wins the Cup, while the defending champion only needs 14 points to retain it.
