Canada has finally done it.
While its final group match against Switzerland ended in disappointment, the Canadian men’s national team has qualified for the knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time in history.
Canada came into the day needing a win or draw to win Group B. However, after allowing two goals early in the second half, Switzerland topped the group with a 2-1 win in Vancouver.
As a result, instead of staying on Canadian soil to host a third-place team, Canada will now travel to Los Angeles to face South Africa in the first Round of 32 matchup of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.
